Breast reduction surgery, or reduction mammoplasty, is a surgical procedure that seeks to transform lives. By removing excess fat, tissue and skin from the breasts, this surgery not only improves the aesthetic appearance, but also provides numerous benefits for the health and well-being of patients.
Breast reduction surgery is performed under general anesthesia. Breast reduction has several objectives, such as relocating the areola and nipple to a higher position and improving the shape of the breast by reducing the size of the mammary gland. This reduction in size represents one of the greatest limitations since this reduction should not jeopardize the nipple. Finally, reduction mammoplasty seeks to best locate the scars that are necessary to organize the skin that is left over after removing the gland. The scar will be in the shape of an inverted T in which the horizontal portion is hidden at the level of the submammary fold and the vertical portion at the lower pole.
